I hope everyone will check out new songs on the Waterside myspace page (myspace.com/waterside)
I know politics and the like, have been the biggest topic of blogscussion lately but that will end with the election. Stop by and hear some new tunes. We love you!
I have to hand it to SNL. All of the political skits have been funny and fairly balanced. It’s good to see the entertainment elite poking fun at both sides of the political spectrum. But I caution you viewers. Please don’t use this as your source of news. ; )
Amazing in these times of “economic hardship” how generous people seem to be. I see no difference in the amount of disposable income people seem to expend. Starbucks isn’t really getting any less bussiness on a week to week basis.
There was a guy who was tragically shot and killed over a robbery in Green Hills here in Nashville. Some people from the Green Hills Starbucks (located in front of location of the robbery) came into my store to set up a memorial donation jar for the victim. I’ve never seen a jar fill so quickly. Not just with change or ones, but with fives and tens. People were moved almost to tears as they donated. Listen, Americans are some of the most generous people. So often we see a need in our community and we give. I am so proud to see the generosity of my customers. And we don’t even need the government to tell us when to give. It’s amazing.
Man, I just haven’t felt like writing lately. I know there’s so much to say, and so much on my list of things to talk about, but something’s just holding me back. I’m going to forcefully give it a try.
I served a lot of people from the secret service today. That was pretty cool. They struck me as fairly normal people. Except for one of them. After interacting with a few of these guys, a question came to mind to ask. I’m not sure why this always happens, but I always seem to find the wrong people to get into a conversation with. I could have asked my question to any of the dozens of secret service guys that came through, but for some reason I questioned the most socially awkward one of the bunch. He was all quiet and shifty eyed. Of course I’m sure he had something to hide. He knew things. And he knew, that I knew, that he knew things. Besides, he had that little ear piece in. I kind of imagined him as a rookie secret service guy, being directed by a veteran secret service guy on the other end. I asked him how they determine who they work for. Given some people may have personal opinions about the candidate they serve. Before he actually answered my actual question with “we treat them all the same,” he said something about California, and if you like horse back riding they would be likely to assign you to work in Colorado. He just seemed a little confused, like there was someone telling him what to say. Then again, maybe I was confused, and he was just getting into my brain and stuff.
I was struck with a sense of reverence today. Senator John McCain was staying at the hotel behind the building I work in. It was just kind of cool having these people in town. Not the same as seeing just any celebrity, as I do on a regular basis. It’s different. I can’t explain. And I use McCain’s name just because he was staying right there. Not because I’m in love with him or something. It would have felt very similar if it were Obama too. And, he may have been more likely to come in and get a soy latte or something. Since he’s such a hip, young, culturally in touch, multimillionaire, Washington insider, politician.
Hey everyone. We’ve been writing like crazy lately! As a band, and with co-writers, and so forth. A lot of good music has come out of it. I’d like to point out that we have a new song recorded this month. It’s called “Not Worried.” When the song was written, the intention was encouragement. It deals with “falling short” and fearing God. The right “fear” can be a good thing, however I think we struggle with the general idea of grace, rather than the intricacies. Truth has been planted in us from the beginning, but we fail to realize that he is Father.
As I was mixing the music, the song started to take on an additional meaning to me. Aside from our obvious short-comings, we who are his children, should fear nothing. I am reminded of the fear and hysteria that we encounter everyday. Because of our own attitudes, affected by the way we react to the “news” that we are spoon fed on a daily basis. Most of it is agenda driven, whether personal or political. But we need to realize that we are joint heirs with Christ. His kingdom only knows increase. We should be filled accordingly. When we follow Christ, we are adopted as children into the Kingdom, and therefore His economy. Granted, some things are seen, and some unseen. We, as believers need to clean house. That means being different than the rest of the world. Some of us bit off more than we can chew, whether it’s because of a home, debt, or what have you. We need to learn from these things and change, especially the believers! Now, there is nothing wrong with being rich, or even filthy rich, but we need to be people of substance, character, and generosity. And if we are to be generous, and sow into the Kingdom, we need to live so that we can. Let’s clean house people. That’s the only way we can truly be “not worried.”………….economically speaking.
I wanted to start a blog to be able to speak my mind a little. I need an outlet for my thoughts and ideas that occur on a day to day basis. And my wife needs a break, her ears are full.
I feel, as a Christian, I’ve been a little timid on some issues. We sometimes want to stay put in the subculture we’ve created. I read a great article that encompasses what I feel we should be trying to achieve as believers. Please read it through. I think you will get something from it.
In this blog, I will write about almost any issue I care about. Many of the things may be political (see title of blog) some will not. I may also include books I’m reading, people I meet, sermons I hear, and experiences on the road with Waterside. I am going to try to keep my ideas open as possible, without watering down points I want to make. I don’t want to anger anyone, but I want the freedom to speak my mind. My true purpose is not to be certain about everything, but to question things, and have open dialogue with like minded and unlike minded individuals. I don’t want anger any Waterside fans, or friends, I just want the freedom to write the thoughts that come to mind. Thoughts that I hope will be looked at and written with a Christian world view. If my entries are more than just general entries, you can feel free to disagree with me, and/or leave comments as you see fit. But please be kind, and know that I will be doing the same, with the best of my ability.
Last Saturday at a birthday get-together for Jason and Ginger (Dan’s wife), the guys spent some time in the studio playing new songs and listening to demos. I snuck up behind Jason to take this video and photos.
